The most frequently asked question I get from New York City residents is “how to make their living space quieter in their building.” The Sound Transmission Class (STC) is a rating on how well a building pai1ition attenuates airborne sound. The higher the number, the quieter it is inside the building’s living space. I have attached a chai1 (pg 2) explaining Sound Transmission Class effectiveness. What we’ve found is that when you use 2 different thicknesses of glass in an insulated glass unit, you create a higher STC rating. Each thickness blocks a different frequency of sound. On the Kelly Vanguai·d 2000 Series double hung window, which was designed for
Co-op’s and Condo’s, we found the best success by using¼” laminated glass by 1/8″ annealed glass. The air space between the glass would be 1/2″ (7 /8″ overall). This would give the insulated glass unit a STC rating of 36. Inside the Co-op/Condo, with this type of insulated unit, this would give you a much quieter and peaceful environment you have been looking for. Over the last 20 years the technology we put into our replacement windows has improved dramatically from warm edge spacers to Ultra Lift Balances and Solar Ban 60 High Performance Glass. The overall ease and energy efficiency of the Kelly Replacement window would make a great investment for your building.
Please feel free to contact me with any of your window needs.
